Hair Loss in Women
affects 1/3 of women
Can result in thinning hair, bald spots, part widening, and excessive shedding
Causes can include normal hair turnover, genetic factors, hair treatments, overuse of some hair products, certain medications, stress, inflammatory conditions, and hormonal changes
Most people lose 50-100 hairs per day. But these are supposed to be replaced by new hairs.
Signs of hair loss:
Seeing more hair fall out daily than previously noticed
Seeing parts of your scalp through your hair that was not previously visible
Having noticeable patches of thin or absent hair
Feeling hair break off
Smaller ponytails
Treatments for hair loss include:
reduction in stress or medications to treat stress and anxiety
Management of underlying health conditions.
Medications
Low-light laser therapy
Platelet rich plasma injections
Hair follicle transplants
How we can help:
We have partnered with local and national hair-loss experts to put together a proven 3-step system to help regrow hair. This works by improving blood flow to hair follicles resulting in improved function and activation of dormant follicles to produce more hair and thicker hair.
Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
This treatment involves drawing a small amount of your blood. Using a specialized centrifuge system, we isolate the platelet-rich plasma from the remaining blood products. Platelets contain specific growth factors that cause the growth of collagen and blood vessels around the hair follicles. Small amounts of this platelet-rich plasma are then injected into superficial layers of the scalp in the areas of hair loss or thinning hair. The recommended regimen involves monthly treatments for four months, followed by a treatment every six months to maintain hair growth and volume.
Topical Medications
This treatment involves the nightly application of a compounded combination of three medications. Minoxidil causes the inactive phase of follicles to shorten and the growth phase to lengthen. It also improves blood flow around the follicles. Bimatoprost, the medication found in Latisse, increases the number and thickness of hair shafts. Melatonin works as a powerful antioxidant that acts on the follicles without affecting systemic levels. These medicines are combined into a single treatment that is applied by the patient each night. It is suspended in a water-based solution so as to not leave a residue on the hair.
Low-level laser light therapy
This treatment involves using a device at home 3 times per week for 15-20 minutes. These devices deliver light therapy at a specific wavelength that stimulates hair follicles. This results in more follicles in the active phase of hair growth and follicles that remain in this phase for a longer period of time. It also helps to promote reparative regeneration, which occurs during wound healing, and physiological regeneration, which occurs during the hair cycle.
If a patient does not respond adequately to this treatment regimen, they may be a candidate for hair follicle transplant therapy.
